In 2016, Specialized was the first major bicycle brand to deliver a full-power eMTB that rode like a trail bike. Two refinements followed, but so too did other brands. Then, in April 2025, Specialized launched Generation 4 of the Turbo Levo and moved this bike some way ahead of its rivals. Here’s why the Gen 4 Turbo Levo is a cut above.
Superior frame: The frame design has been refined to ensure the Levo 4 is stable, yet nimble on any trail. The carbon fibre frames are made from Specialized’s FACT carbon for the best combination of light weight and responsiveness.
SWAT storage: The carbon and alloy frame models all accommodate Specialized’s SWAT internal storage in the downtube to carry spares, tools and more.
Adjustability: The Levo 4 frame is highly adjustable for those wanting to fine-tune their ride to the terrain and gradient. There’s a headtube adjustment between three settings with cup orientation; a rear shock flip chip, which adjusts bottom bracket height; and a seatstay flip chip that adjusts wheelbase length.
Alloy frame option: Specialized has completed the Levo 4 range with two aluminium framed models. They have the same geometry and adjustability as the carbon frames and are some of the most affordable full-power eBikes available.
Optimal control: The Specialized Turbo Levo 4 has 150mm of suspension travel at the rear and 160mm up front which has been tuned to manage mid-to-big hits with composure and small bumps with smoothness. All models are equipped with Fox suspension, except the Levo 4 Alloy, which has Marzocchi suspension. The wheel configuration is the Mullet setup with a 29-inch wheel up front and a 27.5-inch wheel at the rear for increased control on tight trails.
Superior power: The Turbo Levo 4 has more peak power and torque and most of its competitor brands. Most full-power eMTBs offer 600 Watts of peak power and 85Nm of torque, whereas the Turbo Levo 4 delivers 660 Watts of peak power and 101Nm of torque. The S-Works model delivers an incredible 720 Watts of peak power and 111Nm of torque!
Greater range: While most full-power eMTBs have an 800Wh battery, the Turbo Levo 4 comes with an 840Wh battery, offering more range than most other brands. There’s also a lighter 600Wh battery option for those who want a slightly lighter ride.
A deft drivetrain: Every model of the Turbo Levo 4 comes with a SRAM 1x12 drivetrain, the latest T-Type model which is robust and efficient.
Powerful braking: Every model of the Turbo Levo 4 is specced with SRAM’s four-caliper hydraulic disc brakesets – either Maven or DB8 Stealth.
From the base model, Levo 4 Alloy, which currently sells for just R120 000 to the flagship Levo 4 S-Works which is the most advanced full-power eBike on the market, the Specialized Turbo Levo 4 is the most complete eBike range available.
